Learning to drive can feel overwhelming, for both teens and parents. At First Gear Driving School, we make the process clear, comfortable, and confidence-building every step of the way.
Our ODOT-approved courses combine classroom learning with hands-on driving instruction, giving students the skills they need to stay safe on the road.
Current Adult Course Offerings
Our Safe Driving Course for Aging Adults is designed to support responsible independence and confidence on the road. This one-time evaluation provides a thoughtful opportunity for drivers, especially those age 65 and older, to assess their current driving abilities in a safe, encouraging environment.
Course Details:
Session Type: One 90-minute, one-on-one evaluation with a certified driving instructor.
Purpose: Participants will receive individualized feedback on driving habits, reaction times, and awareness, along with a written recommendation to help guide next steps, whether that means continuing to drive confidently, making small adjustments, or exploring additional training opportunities.
Scheduling: After purchase, our instructor will contact you directly to schedule your session at a convenient time and location.
Cost: $175
Instructor: Certified driving instructor trained to provide professional and compassionate guidance.
This course is not a test. It is a resource to help drivers feel informed, supported, and confident in making the best choices for their continued safety and independence behind the wheel.
Our Vehicle Fundamentals Course is a one-time, 90-minute session designed to give licensed drivers essential knowledge for safely and confidently handling common vehicle tasks. This course is perfect for anyone needing a refresher or a practical add-on for new drivers.
Course Details:
Session Type: One 90-minute, hands-on class covering essential vehicle maintenance and safety skills.
Topics Include:
Changing a flat tire
Using safety triangles and emergency equipment
Checking and topping off oil and other fluids
Inflating tires to proper pressure
Refueling and understanding fuel types
Jump-starting a vehicle
Checking and replacing windshield wipers
Understanding dashboard warning lights
Basic vehicle inspection before driving
Purpose: Participants will gain confidence in handling common vehicle maintenance tasks, improving safety and independence on the road.
Scheduling: These are often scheduled to parallel a driving class or lesson. Individual sessions can be scheduled as needed.
